
In a somewhat bizarre turn of events, it was the two managers who started a bench-clearing incident Friday night when the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres crossed paths, and now we know a bit more as to why.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts took offense to something Padres manager Andy Green said and things got quite intense quickly. Roberts said what set him off was Green’s comment about Dodger starter Alex Wood.

Wood was, apparently, not blameless. Though the pitcher denied it, home plate umpire Greg Gibson alleged that he had threatened to hit San Diego’s Jose Pirela for relaying pitch locations.

Both managers were ejected as the Dodgers ultimately won 10-4.
