Dave Roberts has blunt 5-word reaction to Dodgers’ latest loss

Los Angeles Dodgers have watched their commanding lead in the NL West slip away amid a rough stretch of play, and manager Dave Roberts is hoping it will not be much longer before his team wakes up.

The Dodgers pitched poorly once again in their 10-7 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. Their bullpen gave up five earned runs after Yoshinobu Yamamoto surrendered just one earned run on five hits across five innings.

The loss was L.A.’s 11th in their last 14 games. Roberts said “it better be rock bottom.”

“It better be rock bottom, as far as how we’ve been pitching, how we’ve been playing defense,” Roberts told reporters. “I think the offense is starting to kind of tick up, which is good. … But yeah, I think as far as quality of baseball, it’s been a tough watch”

The Twins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning after Miguel Rojas made an error at third base. Another error in the seventh inning allowed Minnesota to extend their lead to 9-5 and essentially put the game away.

Frustration has become a common theme for the Dodgers over the past several weeks. Clayton Kershaw had to cut his media session short on Sunday night because he was afraid he was going to say something he would regret. That happened after he pitched 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers had three errors in that game.

The Dodgers are 59-43 and still have a 3.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the NL West. There is certainly no need for them to panic, but you can understand why Roberts and others have grown tired of the self-inflicted wounds.
