DJ LeMahieu admits MVP chants can be distracting
DJ LeMahieu has quickly become a fan favorite with the New York Yankees, and some have even called for him to get a look as a potential MVP candidate.
LeMahieu admitted, however, that the ‘MVP’ chants he has started to receive from the Yankee Stadium faithful can be a touch distracting and tough to tune out while hitting.
“I try to block it out and focus and just try to put together a good at-bat,” LeMahieu said Saturday, via Brendan Kuty of NJ.com. “Obviously, it’s cool and it’s a good feeling that the fans appreciate you. But for me, it’s just going up there, not changing anything and having competitive at-bats.”
LeMahieu is the league’s leading hitter with a .336 average and has been a mainstay in a lineup hit hard by injuries. It’s easy to see why the Yankee faithful have taken to him. He seems to be tuning the attention out pretty effectively given his consistency this late into the season.
