Did Derek Jeter use the name ‘Philip’ when ordering at Starbucks? (Pictures)

Derek-Jeter-YankeesDerek Jeter is a superstar in every sense of the word. If you had to name one athlete from all of New York’s professional sports teams that is the most easily recognizable, Jeter’s name would be at or near the top of the list. Has that popularity resulted in the Yankee captain having to use a fake name when ordering a coffee?

According to the NY Post, Jeter was spotted leaving a Starbucks in Greenwich Village on Wednesday holding a cup that had the name ‘Philip’ scribbled along the side. Check it out:

Either Jeter grabbed the wrong cup, someone gave him their coffee, the barrista misunderstood him, or he was attempting to go incognito. Here’s a close-up of the cup that shows it did indeed say ‘Philip.’

I guess anything is worth a shot when you’re trying to avoid having to deal with 74 autograph requests when all you want to do is kick-start your day. At the same time, I’d have to think anyone who fell for the “Philip” trick wouldn’t want Jeter’s autograph anyway. How can you miss him?
