The Arizona Diamondbacks made a trade on Wednesday to add to their pitching staff.
Arizona acquired Matt Andriese in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. They gave up pitcher Brian Shaffer and catcher Michael Perez in return.
Andriese is a flexible pitcher who has started and relieved this season, though he’s mostly pitched out of the bullpen. The 28-year-old is 3-4 with a 4.07 ERA in 59.2 innings this season. He has solid peripherals with 59 strikeouts on the year.
Andriese should give the Diamondbacks another right-handed option out of the pen, which already is well-situated between Brad Boxberger, Archie Bradley and Yoshihisa Hirano.
