Diamondbacks to begin using humidor at Chase Field
You can expect to see a decrease in home runs at Chase Field in 2018.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will begin using a humidor to store baseballs for home games, the team’s GM confirmed on Tuesday, according to the Arizona Republic.
A humidor is a climate-controlled chamber that helps a baseball absorb water and therefore makes it less bouncy off the bat.
The Colorado Rockies began using a humidor in 2002 and have seen a notable dropoff in offense since then compared to the Coors Field heyday in the mid-to-late ’90s.
Chase Field is one of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball, so adding a humidor should neutralize some of that difference.
