Roberts has been the team’s manager the past three seasons and has an option for 2019. Rather than make him enter next year as a lame duck, it looks like the Dodgers will give him some security.
Roberts has managed the Dodgers to three straight NL West titles and consecutive World Series appearances. He has drawn criticism for some of his decisions during the playoffs, but the Dodgers likely feel he has ultimately had success with the team and still can do more.
Roberts also appears to work well with the team’s front office, which is said to have a big hand in the day-to-day decisions with the club.
