Dodgers expected to have interest in Juan Soto

The Los Angeles Dodgers are two wins away from proving they are the best team in baseball, and it sounds like they have every intention of trying to get even better this winter.

Juan Soto, who has come up huge for the New York Yankees in the postseason, is set to become one of the biggest free agents in baseball history. While the Dodgers have a 2-0 lead over the Yankees in the World Series and don’t look like they need to throw all kinds of money at Soto, they reportedly have not ruled out trying to sign the 26-year-old slugger.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Dodgers intend to pursue Soto in free agency this winter “if he’s interested.”

Soto spent two seasons with the San Diego Padres before the Yankees acquired him in 2023. Heyman notes that the New York Mets are viewed as the biggest threat to the Yankees in the upcoming Soto sweepstakes, as Soto has enjoyed his time playing in The Big Apple and might not want to return to the West Coast. Soto seemed to hint at that recently when he said money will not be the only factor for him in free agency.

One person with the Yankees told Heyman that the source is confident Soto playing for the Dodgers will “never happen.”

Soto blasted a career-high 41 home runs during the regular season. He batted .288 with 109 RBI and an OPS of .989 across 157 games. He’s hitting .350 with 4 homers, 9 RBI and a 1.160 OPS in 11 playoff games.

There will be only a few teams that can realistically afford Soto with the type of contract he is expected to command. The Dodgers are certainly among them, and no one would be shocked if they used their seemingly endless resources to put even more of a stranglehold on Major League Baseball.
