The Los Angeles Dodgers are not done trying to add to their roster before the 2026 season.
The Dodgers are interested in trading for Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. The team still has a deep pool of prospects to deal from and would be willing to take the risk of acquiring Peralta, who is one year away from free agency.
The Dodgers maintain some concerns about their starting rotation. They will have Shohei Ohtani starting for a full season, though they will want to manage his workload carefully. Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Roki Sasaki also had injury issues last season, which may prompt the Dodgers to add some insurance.
Peralta would not be any ordinary insurance. He posted a 2.70 ERA last season for Milwaukee and finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting. The 29-year-old only has one year of team control remaining, but the Dodgers undoubtedly have the resources to sign him to a long-term contract if they want to.
If the Dodgers were to make such a deal, it would undoubtedly only strengthen the backlash against the organization after another hugely impactful offseason. That is not their problem, though, and they would be left as the clear favorite to repeat as World Series champions, if they aren’t already.
