Donald Trump whiffed on Stephen Strasburg prediction in 2012
The Washington Nationals locked up Stephen Strasburg for another seven years with a $175 million contract extension on Monday. You know who didn’t see that coming? Donald Trump.
After Strasburg underwent Tommy John surgery several years ago, the Nationals put an innings limit on him that was a great source of frustration for fans, as the right-hander was shut down for the playoffs. Trump, who was clearly irritated by Washington’s decision, predicted the team would regret it when Strasburg signed elsewhere in a few years.
When Strasburg leaves in a couple of years under free agency Washington will say " what were we doing".

When Strasburg leaves @Nationals for another team for more money, will Washington still like the decision to shut him down for his good?

Good call, Donald.
Strasburg is 5-0 this season with a 2.76 ERA and 58 strikeouts in seven starts. The Nationals were wise to lock him up long-term while the 27-year-old is still early on in what could be a breakout season.
We probably won’t see Strasburg on a golf course wearing the same hat this college quarterback wore ripping Trump, but the Nationals ace can have himself a good laugh at the very least.
