Edgar Martinez on Hall of Fame: ‘It’s looking good for next year’
Edgar Martinez has an optimistic outlook regarding his Hall of Fame future.
The former Seattle Mariners DH did not make the Hall of Fame this year, but he was very close by receiving 70.4 percent of the needed 75 percent. He told Seattle Times Mariners reporter Ryan Divish that he thinks “it’s looking good for next year.”
Edgar Martinez: "Getting 70.4 percent is a big improvement. All I can think is that it's looking good for next year. It would have been great to get in this year, but it's looking good for next year."

More Edgar Martinez: "I didn't think this year was going to happen, especially looking at the tracker for the last week or so. I didn't have high expectations. I was fine with it."

Edgar Martinez: "I just say thank you to all the fans that supported my candidacy. The positive thing is that it's trending up."

Just like Martinez says, it’s trending up for him. Consider that both Vlad Guerrero and Trevor Hoffman received under the 75 percent mark last year and then got elected in 2018. Vlad shot up 21.2 percent, while Hoffman saw a 5.9 percent bump. If Martinez goes up by as much as Hoffman, he should make it next year. LBS figures he will make it next year along with Roy Halladay, Mariano Rivera, and potentially Mike Mussina.
