Extent of Jacob deGrom’s latest arm injury revealed
Jacob deGrom is dealing with another arm injury, and the latest will force the New York Mets ace to miss Opening Day and beyond.
The Mets announced on Friday that deGrom will be shut down for four weeks and then evaluated. The right-hander has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right scapula, which is more commonly known as a shoulder blade.
Jacob deGrom underwent an MRI today that revealed a stress reaction on his scapula that has caused inflammation in the area. The immediate prescription is for Jake to discontinue throwing for up to 4 weeks and then reimage the area. At that time, we’ll update the plan of care.

DeGrom experienced tightness in the back of his right shoulder while throwing on Thursday. The hope was that the Mets were being overly cautious, but tests revealed a serious injury.
While he is one of the best pitchers in baseball when healthy, deGrom has had trouble staying on the field. The 33-year-old was limited to 92 innings last season and 15 starts. He was incredibly dominant, going 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA and 0.55 WHIP.
DeGrom had looked good in Spring Training, which makes the news even tougher to swallow. He allowed one run and five hits over five innings, striking out 10 and walking none.
