Anthony Volpe has somehow gone from unwanted to unstoppable.
The New York Yankees infielder Volpe had his best game of the season on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. Volpe poured it on at Yankeee Stadium in New York, N.Y., going 3/4 with five RBIs and a stolen base.
The crowning moment for Volpe came in the bottom of the seventh inning when he smacked a grand slam to right field to open up a 10-2 lead for the Yankees. Eventually, the Yankees would go on to beat the Rockies by a final score of 10-3.

After the grand slam, Volpe (who was previously reviled by Yankees fans for his poor performances) even received a curtain call from the Yankee Stadium crowd.

In response to Volpe’s massive night, fans over social media all said the same thing. They said that Volpe as a second baseman was an elite player.

Thursday actually marked Volpe’s first game back in the majors after being demoted to Triple-A in August. He has primarily been a shortstop throughout his MLB career but was called up to play second base with Jazz Chisholm Jr. (thumb) going on the injured list this week.
Volpe, the 25-year-old former Gold Glover, had been getting booed by Yankees fans as early as last year due to his substandard play. But on Thursday, he got to dine on the other end of the table in receiving a hero’s welcome from the Bronx faithful.
