Report: Five teams chasing Chris Sale, asking price extremely high
There is an active trade market for White Sox ace lefty Chris Sale, but a high asking price is holding things up for now.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, five teams are leading the pack for Sale: Washington, Houston, Texas, Boston, and Atlanta. However, the asking price is said to be very high, with Chicago asking Washington for star rookie Trea Turner in preliminary discussions.
It remains unclear how serious the White Sox are about trading Sale, given the asking price. It could well be posturing, or they could just be seeing if anyone is desperate enough to pay up.
That said, Sale has been the subject of trade rumors since July. The White Sox have indicated that they may be embarking on a rather lengthy rebuild. With that in mind, trading Sale for a haul would make sense.
