Garrett Crochet stays in game after being hit in face with line drive

Garrett Crochet has his face examined

Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet showcased some incredible toughness during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins.

Crochet was hit in the face by a line drive during the top of the fourth inning at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. Twins shortstop Carlos Correa led off the inning and ripped a 2-1 pitch right back at Crochet, who was unable to get his glove up in time.

Fortunately, Crochet turned his head just enough so that the ball did not hit him squarely in the face. The ball did, however, hit the left-hander in the nose hard enough to change directions. Second baseman Kristian Campbell backhanded the ground ball and threw Correa out at first.

Crochet stayed on his feet and barely looked fazed. Trainers quickly examined him and determined that there was no significant injury.

Garrett Crochet ended up getting clipped right on the nose. Terrifying, but seems like he dodged a bullet.

You can see another angle that shows how the ball glanced off Crochet’s nose:

Obviously, there was plenty of luck involved. Another inch to the right and Crochet could have had a broken bone and been covered in blood. Still, it was impressive that he did not even go down to the ground.

Crochet remained in the game and struck out the next batter.

Crochet has been as good as advertised this season with a 3-2 record and 2.05 ERA entering Sunday. Fans will be even more pleased with him after seeing how he ate that line drive and kept going.
