George Springer likely to miss two weeks with thumb sprain

The Houston Astros got what must be considered somewhat good news about outfielder George Springer.

Springer avoided the worst-case scenario, spraining his thumb in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The injury is expected to cause him to miss two weeks of action.

If all goes according to plan, Springer will be on track to return to action before the end of August. Though his average is down this season, he’s still a valuable part of the team, with 19 home runs and a key role in the Houston outfield.

Ultimately, this starter going down may be a bigger deal long-term for the Astros than Springer’s injury, which, while not ideal, isn’t exceptionally serious.
