Report: Giants have internally discussed Pablo Sandoval trade

Could a reunion between the San Francisco Giants and Pablo Sandoval be in the cards?

According to Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald, the Giants have had internal discussions about trading for Sandoval, current Red Sox third baseman and former Giant.

It is unclear whether the Red Sox would actively entertain such a proposal, or more likely, whether the two teams could make a deal. Sandoval’s trade value is extremely low and he’s still owed over $50 million over the next three years. He’s also fresh off a lost season due to shoulder surgery.

The Giants, however, would be uniquely positioned to try to resurrect Sandoval’s career, given the success he had there and how well the organization knows him. His conditioning is the biggest issue, and last we heard, there was modest progress there. Whether it sticks is anyone’s guess. You can’t blame the Giants for floating the idea, but there are a lot of obstacles to be cleared before this becomes a reality.
