The San Francisco Giants on Monday fired Bob Melvin as their manager. They may already have someone else in mind to fill the vacancy.
Bruce Bochy, who used to manage the Giants, has been mentioned in connection with the job. Bochy managed the Giants from 2007-2019 and won three World Series with them. He was then hired by the Texas Rangers in 2023 and won the World Series with them in his first year. But the Rangers slipped to 81-81 this season.
Bochy’s contract with the Rangers has ended, which is why the opportunity exists for him to move to the Giants. Add in that Buster Posey, who caught for the Giants when Bochy was their manager, is now in charge, and the possibility seems even more realistic.
USA Today reporter Bob Nightengale has mentioned the possibility of Bochy returning to the Giants.
It will be fascinating to see now if Buster Posey gets the band together and tries to lure Bruce Bochy back to San Francisco https://t.co/PVSMDjxI2s

Rangers reporter Evan Grant also mentioned the possibility of a Bochy-Giants reunion.
The Giants have fired Bob Melvin. Bruce Bochy's contract is expiring. Commence speculation. https://t.co/a4wxJIenvQ

Bochy is 70 years old, so it’s possible the team may not want to bring back their old manager. But the team was willing to make Posey their president, so if he wants to bring back Bochy, the possibility has to be considered.
