Giants reportedly meeting with Mark Melancon
After an epic bullpen implosion doomed them this past postseason, the San Francisco Giants are trying to avoid a repeat performance in 2017.
According to a report by Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports on Friday, Washington Nationals free agent closer Mark Melancon is in San Francisco for an in-person visit with the Giants.
Giants official early this week: "We are getting one of the big closers." Mark Melancon scheduled to be in SF today for an in-person visit.

Melancon, 31, posted a 1.64 ERA in 2016 with 47 saves in 51 combined opportunities between the Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Giants badly need a lights-out ninth inning option after leading the league with 30 blown saves last season. Meanwhile, relievers Sergio Romo, Santiago Casilla, and Javier Lopez are all becoming free agents, so pursuing an elite closer like Melancon is almost a necessity for them at this point.
