Hyun-Jin Ryu agrees to four-year deal with Blue Jays

Hyun Jin Ryu

Hyun-Jin Ryu is heading up north.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported on Sunday that the veteran lefty has agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 32-year-old Ryu, the top pitcher left on the free agent market, went 14-5 last season with a league-best 2.32 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers. His stellar campaign earned him National League All-Star honors and a second place finish in Cy Young voting.

With the Blue Jays having traded Marcus Stroman a few months ago, Ryu will immediately become their No. 1 starter and help complement a roster that also boasts some of the best young hitters in the game. The $80 million figure is also consistent with what most in the league expected Ryu to command.
