Indians manager asks fans to keep Leonys Martin in their thoughts

Cleveland Indians outfielder Leonys Martin is currently dealing with an undisclosed medical condition, and manager Terry Francona is asking for well wishes to be sent his way.

Speaking with reporters Friday, Francona addressed the situation of Martin, who landed on the DL this week with an unspecified non-baseball illness.

“We have to respect what the family wishes so we are,” said the Indians skipper, per Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com. “We talked to the team a little bit. We just need to respect their privacy right now.

“What I would say, if you believe in saying prayers and things like that, keep him in your thoughts,” Francona continued. “But he’s in a good place. He’s at the [Cleveland] Clinic, and he’s getting good care.”

Martin, 30, is batting .255 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 84 games this season. He was acquired by Cleveland from Detroit at the trade deadline.

Francona had described the ailment as “intestinal turmoil” a few days ago, so hopefully the veteran outfielder will be able to recover from the issue quickly.
