Indians throw ‘Fausto Carmona’ birthday party to heckle him about identity fraud

Those of you who have followed the Fausto Carmona saga over the past six months or so know why we put quotation marks around his name in the headline. It’s because Fausto Carmona was never Fausto Carmona. The man who pitched for the Indians prior to his arrest for identity theft back in January is Roberto Hernandez. The Indians (and the rest of us) were led to believe he was 28 years old at the time of his arrest, but Hernandez was really 31. Apparently this amused his teammates.

Hernandez rejoined the Indians over the weekend and could be back in the rotation by mid-August. Upon his return, Hernandez’s teammates decided to throw him a birthday party with three cakes to celebrate his rapid advancement in age since the last time they saw him. If we can’t laugh about full-fldged identity fraud, what can we laugh about? Nicely done, Cleveland.
