Indians seemingly jab Yankees on Twitter over Jay Bruce acquisition
Whoever was running the Cleveland Indians’ Twitter account on Thursday night was feeling saucy.
Jay Bruce provided the offense for the Indians in their 4-0 win over the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS. The outfielder smashed a 2-run home run and double off Sonny Gray, and he also added an RBI sac fly.
After Bruce’s home run, Cleveland’s Twitter account sent the following tweet:
Jay Bruce is on our team because our owner wrote a check that competitors for Jay wouldn't. pic.twitter.com/nIIff4RMcZ
— AL Central champs! (@Indians) October 6, 2017
That seemed to be aimed at the Yankees.
You may recall that Bruce was on the trade block for several weeks before the Indians acquired him in August. Cleveland agreed to pay the full remainder of Bruce’s $13 million salary, taking the Mets off the hook. The Yankees were also contenders to acquire Bruce. One of the holdups reportedly was that they were only willing to pay a portion of his salary.
Whether that information is true or not is unconfirmed, but that didn’t stop the Indians’ Twitter account from running with it.
