JA Happ hit in head by line drive, leaves game (Video)
J.A. Happ left Tuesday’s Toronto Blue Jays-Tampa Bay Rays game after getting hit in the head by a line drive.
Happ was facing Desmond Jennings with men on second and third and one out in the bottom of the second inning. Jennings drilled a 3-1 pitch right back up the middle, and the line drive appeared to nail Happ squarely in the head. Happ went down immediately while the ball deflected off him with such force that it rolled all the way down the right field line resulting in a triple for Jennings.
Happ was able to move his hand to his face and wiped some blood, so at least we know he was moving. He was taken off on a stretcher.
That was a horrifying incident and we hope the best for Happ. We are truly praying that he will be OK — this is the type of incident that can result in serious injury.
Rays pitcher David Price and manager Joe Maddon sent their well wishes to Happ over Twitter after the game:
Everyone please say a prayer for JA Happ…very scary…hope he is ok and recovers well
