Though Peavy did not pitch last season, some team may be willing to give him a Spring Training invitation.
The 36-year-old went 5-9 with a 5.54 ERA for the San Francisco Giants in 2016. He pitched in 31 games, making 21 starts that season. By 2016, Peavy’s average fastball velocity, which was over 92 mph during his prime, had fallen below 89 mph, according to Fangraphs. If his velocity hasn’t improved, don’t expect him to show much better results in 2018.
