Jake Peavy reportedly trying to make comeback

Jake Peavy

Former Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy is trying to make a comeback, according to a report.

Fan Rag Sports’ Jon Heyman reported on Monday that Peavy is looking to make a comeback in 2018.

Though Peavy did not pitch last season, some team may be willing to give him a Spring Training invitation.

The 36-year-old went 5-9 with a 5.54 ERA for the San Francisco Giants in 2016. He pitched in 31 games, making 21 starts that season. By 2016, Peavy’s average fastball velocity, which was over 92 mph during his prime, had fallen below 89 mph, according to Fangraphs. If his velocity hasn’t improved, don’t expect him to show much better results in 2018.
