Jarrod Dyson believes Ryan Flaherty kneed him in head on purpose (GIF)
Kansas City Royals outfielder Jarrod Dyson took a knee to the head from Baltimore Orioles third baseman Ryan Flaherty on Tuesday night, and the speedster doesn’t think it was an accident. After the game, Dyson said he believes Flaherty “put the knee down” on him during the pick-off attempt.
“He put the knee down,” he told CBSSports.com. “But I ain’t worried about it. … If I’m not hurt, I’m good. It’s baseball, it’s all good. I’m not upset. We’re just trying to see them come back tomorrow to get rid of ’em.”
After the Royals won Game 2 on Saturday, Dyson was asked if he expects the series to make it back to Baltimore for Game 6.
“No sir, I don’t,” he said. “And I don’t think they think that, either.”
It was clear that Dyson thought the knee to the head may have come as a result of his comment. While the Orioles haven’t said anything about his prediction publicly, some writers suggested that they were not happy about it. Dyson said all he meant by his original remark was that he feels the Royals can’t be stopped.
“Y’all blew it up bigger than what it was. But it’s all right, it’s cool,” he said. “We’re still going to play Royals baseball. I feel like we’re playing great baseball, and nobdy could stop us. I’m pretty sure everyone feels that way.”
If Flaherty did knee Dyson in the head intentionally, he did a good job of disguising it. To me it looked nothing more like a player trying to block the bag.
