Jason Varitek open to becoming Red Sox manager?
As the Boston Red Sox look to replace Alex Cora, another one of their former players could be throwing his hat into the ring.
Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported on Monday that Red Sox great Jason Varitek, a beloved figure in Boston, seems more willing to consider managing this time around. The 47-year-old had previously been uninterested in the Red Sox job during the times when it was open.
After spending his entire 15-year career with the Red Sox and helping lead them to two World Series titles, Varitek joined the team’s front office as a special assistant in 2012 and is still employed in that capacity.
Though Boston may be targeting candidates with the managerial experience Varitek lacks, it’s hard to think of a better option for the fanbase to get behind.
