Jay Bruce’s no-trade list revealed
The teams on Jay Bruce’s no-trade list have been revealed.
According to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, Bruce updated his no-trade list two weeks ago to include the following five teams: Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins, Oakland A’s, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays.
The list differs from prior to the trade deadline, when the Orioles and Mariners were on the list instead of the Tigers and Marlins. Oakland, Tampa Bay and Toronto have been the three constants.
Bruce has two years left on his 3-year, $39 million deal with the New York Mets. He is scheduled to earn $14 million in each of the next two seasons.
Bruce batted just .223 in 94 games last season after smacking 36 home runs the year before.
This news is relevant because of the Mets’ reported interest in taking on the Robinson Cano contract. Cano is owed $120 million over the next five years. The Mets would most likely want to dump Bruce’s contract if they are to take on Cano’s.
