Former Yankees World Series champion feeling disrespected by team

One former New York Yankees World Series champion seems to be feeling a little disrespected by the team.

Former Yankees relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain is pretty active on his X social media account. He saw a photo shared by a Yankees reporter that showed former Yankees infielder Didi Gregorius at spring training as a guest instructor. The reporter noted that fellow former Yankees Andy Pettitte and CC Sabathia had also been at spring training all week.

Chamberlain seemed a little salty about Gregorius receiving a guest instructor invite from the Yankees.

“Dang he is there i can’t even get a phone call……,” Chamberlain wrote on X Thursday in response.

Gregorius played five seasons for the Yankees from 2015-2019. He received MVP votes in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He wasn’t a star player, but he also was more than just a scrub.

As far as Chamberlain goes, he emerged on the scene as a flame-throwing phenomenon in 2007 and 2008, and the Yankees tried to manage his workload with the “Joba Rules.” He later transitioned from a relief to a starting role during the Yankees’ World Series-winning 2009 season. Chamberlain had a nice 7-year run with the team from 2007-2013, but he never quite returned to the form he displayed in the hyped 2007 season.

Still, Chamberlain is arguably more well known to Yankees fans than Gregorius. It’s unclear to what extent Chamberlain was being serious or joking, but at least some part of him seem bothered.
