Joey Gallo does NOT want to play third base again
Joey Gallo has made it known he does NOT want to play third base for the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers have been contemplating backup plans with Adrian Beltre on the disabled list due to a hamstring injury. Texas has reportedly discussed Gallo as an option. To say he’s not enthused about the possibility of playing third base is an understatement.
“I don’t want. I don’t like it,” Gallo told MLB.com. “I hate it, no joke. I hate third base.”
“I’d rather catch,” he continued. “No joke.”
Since arriving in the majors in 2015, Gallo has started 80 games at third base. He also spent the majority of his time in the minors at third, so he’s no stranger to playing the hot corner. However, it certainly sounds that Gallo’s preference is not to return unless it’s absolutely necessary.
This season, Gallo has split time between left field and first base. Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Renato Nunez have also spent time a third base this season. Kiner-Falefa has started the Rangers’ last few games at third base.
