Jonathan Villar slides into Brandon Phillips’ butt for worst play of the year
Could any play better represent the Houston Astros’ embarrassing season than this?
Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar took a nose-full of turd Tuesday when he dove head-first into Brandon Phillips’ butt while trying to stretch a single into a double in the first inning of a 10-0 loss.
There were so many butt-ugly aspects of the play, we must highlight them all.
- – Villar was trying to take two on a line drive up the middle. Not a gapper. A liner up the middle.
– Villar was trying to take two with his team down 4-0 in the first
– Brandon Phillips applied a backwards, no-look tag between his legs … and it worked
– Villar didn’t even realize he was sliding right into the tag

Fittingly, the 10-0 loss was the Astros’ 100th of the season. They’re now 51-100. Relive the embarrassment in the GIF and photo below:
Last year the New York Jets gave us the buttfumble. This year the Astros gave us the butt-tag.
