Josh Donaldson, John Gibbons get heated in dugout (Video)
Things may be going well for the Toronto Blue Jays, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t tensions between their star player and their manager.
After third baseman Josh Donaldson slammed his bat in frustration in the dugout after striking out in the top of the third against the Yankees Wednesday, manager John Gibbons had a word with him, and the two had to be separated by Josh Thole and Troy Tulowitzki.
As Yankee announcer Ken Singleton speculates, Gibbons likely believed that a slammed bat in the dugout could be dangerous if it breaks or ricochets. Donaldson, frustrated over his strikeout, likely didn’t care.
Donaldson is a fiery character, as evidenced by some of his conduct with his former team. He’s an emotional player who likely didn’t enjoy being confronted in the moment, even if Gibbons very much had a point.
