Josh Donaldson to have MRI on injured hip
The reigning American League MVP is out of the lineup for a third consecutive game with a hip injury, and now there’s some worry that he could be dealing with something more serious.
Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said on Wednesday that All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson is set to undergo an MRI on the hip, per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. Atkins also adds that being sidelined is making Donaldson “more miserable than any player right now that exists.”

The AL East crown is up for grabs at the moment with the Blue Jays tied with the Baltimore Orioles for second in the division, just two games behind the Boston Red Sox for the lead. If Donaldson, who is clubbing .280/.400/.552 with 34 home runs and 92 RBIs in 2016, can’t be out there for this crucial stretch of the season, it’s obviously a big concern.
The 30-year-old has gotten caught up in a bit of in-house drama this year, but there’s little doubt that he’s the team most irreplaceable all-around player. The Blue Jays can only cross their fingers and hope that Donaldson isn’t dealing with anything major as they continue to battle for a ticket to October.
