Ken Rosenthal was criticized over the weekend for the way he reacted to an unfortunate mishap with a photographer, and the longtime MLB reporter has since shared his side of the story.
On Saturday night, the Milwaukee Brewers became the first team to clinch a postseason berth in 2025 with their walk-off win over the St. Louis Cardinals in extra innings at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wis. Rosenthal, who was covering the game for FOX, interviewed Andruw Monasterio on the field following the Brewers infielder’s game-winning pinch hit in the bottom of the 10th inning.
During the interview, Monasterio’s teammates came over to give him a Gatorade shower. Rosenthal had to quickly jump out of the way, and he knocked over Brewers team photographer Scott Paulus in the process. Rather than reach out to see if Paulus was OK, Rosenthal seemed angry and gave a dirty look. He then shrugged in a way that looked like he wanted to say “what the heck are you doing?”

The video was not a good look for Rosenthal. Many people felt he should have reached out to help Paulus rather than giving the death stare.
Rosenthal addressed the video during Monday’s episode of his “Fair Territory” show. He insists he was not as angry as he looked and that he “apologized profusely” to Paulus following the collision.
“I must admit, when I looked at the video, when I saw this, I was surprised at how upset I appeared. I was more confused than anything,” Rosenthal said. “I had to continue the interview. We were live, folks, on national television. I couldn’t stop. That said, I felt awful about what happened.
“Afterward I went up to Scott, whom I’ve worked with in pits before over the years, and I apologized and I apologized profusely. Because let’s face it, I don’t think that you ever expect knocking someone down is ever going to happen in any situation. So yeah, sure, I apologized.”

Rosenthal certainly seemed annoyed in the video. He looked like he was angry at the photographer for getting in his way. He probably regretted the way he reacted, which is why he later apologized and then admitted he was surprised by how “upset” he appeared.
