Kendrys Morales reportedly traded to Oakland A’s
The Oakland A’s are adding a bat to help make up for the loss of Matt Olson.
The A’s have acquired Kendrys Morales in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Olson, the team’s first baseman, is expected to be out 4-6 weeks after suffering a broken bone in his hand last week. Morales served mostly as a DH for Toronto, but he can play first and may platoon with Mark Canha. Morales, a lefty batter, has nearly a career .800 OPS against right-handed pitchers and would likely be the option against right-handers.
Morales is earning $12 million in the final season of his contract. It’s unclear how much of that amount the A’s will be paying.
The 35-year-old batted .249 with 21 homers and a .769 OPS last season.
