Report: Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda visited Dodger Stadium

Sought-after Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda reportedly visited Dodger Stadium on Thursday.

The 27-year-old righty must sign by January 8.

Via Japanese media source: RHP Kenta Maeda was at #Dodgers Stadium yesterday. Deadline to sign is Jan. 8

Such a pursuit would make sense for the Dodgers, who have already lost Zack Greinke and have seen deals for Aroldis Chapman and Hisashi Iwakuma scuttled for different reasons. The Dodgers would be required to pay $20 million for the right to negotiate a contract with Maeda, but that sum would be returned if Los Angeles fails to make a deal. The Japanese right-hander posted a 2.06 ERA in the Japan Central League last season, but the standard of competition is much higher in North America.
