San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner may be dealt away this summer, and we now have an idea of what teams he can block a trade to.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the eight teams are primarily a contender, giving Bumgarner leverage if there is one interested club he’d prefer to go to more than another.
Madison Bumgarner’s eight-team no-trade list, per sources:#Braves#RedSox#Cubs#Astros#Brewers#Yankees#Phillies#STLCards
Bumgarner chose teams strategically; list comprised solely of contenders that might want to acquire him from #SFGiants, not teams he wants to avoid.

That said, #SFGiants’ Bumgarner should be motivated to approve a trade: Any potential free agent traded in middle of season is ineligible for qualifying offer and exempt from draft-pick comp. List, however, gives him measure of control – if, say, he prefers #Braves to #Phillies.

As Rosenthal notes, Bumgarner would probably approve a trade that sends him to a contender if it comes to that. This simply gives him a measure of control if he ends up having multiple options.
A Bumgarner trade is by no means set in stone. However, it is definitely something to watch as we get closer to the July 31 trade deadline.
