Marcus Semien interested in contract extension with A’s
Marcus Semien is coming off a huge season for the A’s and interested in receiving a contract extension from the team, according to a report.
MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported Monday that Semien told Oakland he is interested in an extension.
Marcus Semien has told A’s he’s interested in extension. Not only is he a Bay Area native and Cal product but the A’s showed faith in him for years, enabling his stardom. They would love to keep Semien and will talk but it’s tough for A’s. He could be huge free agent after 2020.

Semien, 29, finished third in MVP voting last season. He batted .285 with 43 doubles, 33 homers, 123 runs, 92 RBIs, 87 walks and an .891 OPS — all of which were career-high marks.
Semien is entering his final year of arbitration and will be a free agent after 2020. He is a Bay Area native and went to college at Cal, which plays a role in his desire to sign with the A’s long term. It will be up to the A’s to see whether they can fit Semien into their small budget.
