The Seattle Mariners took a page out of the Savannah Bananas’ playbook on Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals.
The red-hot Mariners entered the bottom of the ninth inning with a 12-5 lead over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. Maikel Garcia led off the frame against Mariners reliever Emerson Hancock.
Garcia hit a bouncing ball toward shortstop JP Crawford, who had to make a diving catch to keep the ball in the infield. With the speedy Garcia running, Crawford made the quick decision to flip the ball over to second baseman Leo Rivas, who had just enough time to gun down Garcia at first base.

It’s a play that would have made the Savannah Bananas proud.
Crawford would have had no chance to get Garcia had he not gotten fancy with the flip to Rivas. The play helped Seattle secure their 10th straight victory.
The Mariners gave their fans plenty to cheer for in Tuesday’s game. All-Star catcher Cal Raleigh clubbed his 55th and 56th home runs to match Ken Griffey Jr. for the franchise record.

With the Mariners in a heated battle against the Houston Astros for the division crown, they’ll need every win, trick play, and Raleigh homer they can get to secure a postseason berth.
