The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks kicked off the MLB regular season on Saturday in Australia. The rest of the league has over a week remaining before games start counting. If Diamondbacks outfielder Mark Trumbo had that extra time, he might have been able to avoid embarrassing himself on a long fly ball.
Dodgers outfielder Scott Van Slyke belted a fly ball to left field in the top of the second inning that looked like it had a chance to leave the park. Vin Scully thought it was gone, and Trumbo appeared to as well. He scaled the wall and watched the ball hit about halfway up the fence and stay in play.
Had Trumbo read the ball properly, he could have caught it for an out. Instead, Van Slyke was credited with a double. Trumbo clearly needed a bit more time in spring training.
