Marlins working to sign Derek Jeter’s former Yankees teammate

Derek Jeter

The Miami Marlins are trying to bring in an old friend of the boss.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported on Sunday that the Marlins like free agent catcher Francisco Cervelli, a former teammate of Miami CEO Derek Jeter on the New York Yankees, and are working to sign him.

The 33-year-old Cervelli, who hit .213 in 48 games last season between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Atlanta Braves, is a well-respected veteran. He was teammates with Jeter on the Yankees for seven seasons from 2008 to 2014, including their World Series title run in 2009.

In any case, Cervelli is probably on way better terms with The Captain than he is with one of his other ex-Yankee teammates.
