Max Scherzer will start Game 4 despite NLDS relief appearance
The Washington Nationals will stick to the plan and start Max Scherzer in Game 4 of the NLDS.
Manager Dave Martinez announced ahead of Sunday’s Game 3 that Scherzer will be good to go for Game 4 after throwing an inning of relief in Friday’s Game 2.

Scherzer appeared in Game 2 on what would have been his regular bullpen day. Obviously, though, an inning of high-stress relief in the late innings of a tight playoff game is a lot more strenuous than a simple bullpen session. Martinez had said the Nationals would see how Scherzer responded to Saturday’s day off before making a decision on Game 4, and it looks like he feels good.
It looks like Washington will get the best possible situation out of this. Scherzer will pitch on schedule, and he was still able to catch the Dodgers off-guard when used in Game 2.
