Gonzalez, 33, went 10-11 with a 4.21 ERA over 171 innings last season spent with the Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers. He spent five and a half seasons with the Nats and is familiar with the NL East.
The Mets are said to be seriously considering trade offers for Syndergaard, who is under team control for three more years.
