Report: Mets unlikely to trade Noah Syndergaard during offseason

Noah Syndergaard

Noah Syndergaard was the subject of repeated trade rumors during the 2019 season, but it doesn’t appear that the New York Mets ace will be subjected to the same treatment during the offseason.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets are not expected to look into trading Syndergaard again. This is partially because the team expects to lose fellow starter Zack Wheeler to free agency, as well as the fact that the team never came close to finding a Syndergaard deal they liked when discussing him with other teams during the season.

The Mets brought in Marcus Stroman as a ready-made replacement for either Wheeler or Syndergaard, and with Wheeler headed out the door, they’ll be content to let Stroman replace him and allow Syndergaard to stay put.

Syndergaard was not at his best in 2019. Though he pitched the most innings of his career, his ERA rose to 4.28 and he allowed 24 home runs, both career worsts.

Syndergaard never seemed eager to be traded, so this may come as welcome news to him. That’s provided his feelings haven’t changed after a bit of a catcher-related saga late in the season.
