Michael Busch joins crazy Cubs July 4th tradition with three homers

Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Busch joined a crazy team tradition with his huge game on Friday.

Busch went 4-for-4 with three home runs and five RBIs in his Cubs’ 11-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. The home runs gave Busch 17 on the season and 55 RBIs. He also became the third Cubs player ever to hit three home runs in a game against the Cardinals. The wild thing is that all three Cubs players who hit three home runs in a game against the Cardinals did it on July 4th!

Ok, this is something: Michael Busch is the 3rd Cubs player with a 3-HR game against the Cardinals. All 3 did it on Independence Day: Moises Alou on July 4, 2003 and Hank Leiber on July 4, 1939. C'mon.

That is one crazy coincidence.

The Cubs bashed eight home runs total in the game. Not only did Busch hit three, but Pete Crow-Amstrong added two, while Carson Kelly, Dansby Swanson and Seiya Suzuki all added one as well. It’s no wonder that Crow-Armstrong said after the game that it was the best offense he’s been a part of.

Pete Crow-Armstrong said its especially sweet this year for the Cubs at the plate after dealing with "ballpark factors" a lot last season — as in bad hitting conditions: "It’s the best offense I've ever been a part of."
