Former World Series champion Michael A. Taylor has announced his retirement.

Taylor just completed his 12th MLB season. He played center field and went 1-for-3 with an RBI and walk in his Chicago White Sox’s 8-0 win over the Washingotn Nationals on Sunday. The victory ensured he would go out on a win in the last game of his career.

Taylor, 34, is best known for the seven seasons he spent with the Washington Nationals to start his career. One of his best seasons came in 2017 when he batted .271 with an .806 OPS, 23 doubles and 19 home runs, while stealing 17 bases. Taylor was part of the 2019 Nationals team that won the World Series. He batted .333 with two home runs in that postseason. He also slugged two home runs and added 8 RBIs in the 2017 postseason with the Nats.

Taylor left the Nats after the 2020 season and signed with the Royals. He finished his career with the Twins, Pirates and then the White Sox. During the 2021 season with the Royals, Taylor won the first and only Gold Glove award of his career.

Though he was a career .232 hitter, Taylor’s superior defense in the outfield is what helped him stand out. Taylor told reporters that he made the decision to retire a few months ago.
