Mike Moustakas takes cleat to hand from Kevin Pillar
The status of Mike Moustakas is something fans will have to keep an eye on for the remainder of the postseason.
Moustakas was cleated by Kevin Pillar on a play at third base during Game 5 of the ALCS on Wednesday and was seen holding his hand afterwards.
Pillar was trying to stretch a hit over center fielder Lorenzo Cain’s head into a triple and was thrown out at third to end the eighth inning. He came into the base with a hard slide and collided with Moustakas. Not only did he appear to accidentally kick the third baseman in the head, but his back foot looked like it smashed into Moustakas’ hand.
FS1’s Erin Andrews reported that Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost wanted Moustakas to have his hand examined after the play, but the third baseman shook off the trainer and said “I’ll be okay.”
