Shohei Ohtani can both pitch and hit, but has Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia considered letting him do both in the same game?
The answer is yes, but only under very select circumstances.
Scioscia said Sunday that the Angels would consider forfeiting the DH and letting Ohtani pitch and hit in the same game, but only if the team was in a situation where they badly needed his bat in the lineup.
Maybe the most interesting tidbit to emerge from Mike Scioscia’s pregame scrum: he’s considered letting Ohtani pitch and hit in the same game, and sacrifice the DH, but only in September “if we really need his bat in the lineup.”

The Angels letting Ohtani do both at once would definitely be an injury risk, but perhaps one worth taking given how well he hits. Still, it’s only May, and there’s no need to push him, especially when he’s already battled some injury issues.
