MLB network announcer badly jinxed Yoshinobu Yamamoto in viral video

Yoshinobu Yamamoto gets ready to deliver a pitch

Los Angeles Dodgers star Yoshinobu Yamamoto is off to an excellent start in his first MLB season, but the star pitcher has already experienced the dreaded announcer jinx.

Yamamoto entered Tuesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins having thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings. As the right-hander was warming up before the top of the first inning, MLB Network studio announcer Greg Amsinger ridiculously declared a “no-hitter alert.”

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but we are already a no-hitter alert,” Amsinger said. “Yoshinobu Yamamoto, before he throws a single pitch tonight against the Miami Marlins, we have a no-hitter alert. Enjoy what could be a no-hitter from Yamamoto.”

Then, on the very first pitch of the game, Marlins lead-off hitter Chisholm blasted a home run to right-center field. You can watch the entire sequence:

Amsinger was obviously messing around by predicting before the game even began that Yamamoto could throw a no-hitter, but the announcer is definitely taking the fall for that lead-off homer. Though, it was hardly the most costly announcer jinx we have ever seen.

Yamamoto settled in nicely and ended up getting the win. He allowed 5 hits and 2 earned runs over 8 innings, and the Dodgers won 8-2. Yamamoto is now 4-1 on the season with a 2.79 ERA.
