Mookie Betts absolutely hosed an unsuspecting baserunner during Monday’s game against Tampa Bay, and even he was impressed by his own throw.

The reigning AL MVP gunned down Rays outfielder Avisail Garcia, who was trying to leg out a sixth-inning triple, with a completely absurd laser from right field that got to third base on the fly. Take a look:

“I did all I could to get it there,” said Betts after the game, per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. “That’s pretty much all I have.”

“Yeah, that’s probably the best throw [I’ve ever made],” he added. “Fun to do something you didn’t know you could do.”

The four-time All-Star entered play Monday with nine outfield assists on the season, so there was at least some precedent. Still, Betts’ throw was definitely something special and maybe the best we’ve seen since this fellow AL star’s.
